            SUMMER FLASHBACK AT PIPPY PARK

SUMMERFEST 06

This year’s SummerFest was a great success!  Despite the rain that cancelled Saturday’s festivities, the event went ahead on Sunday, July 30.  The big hit this year was SummerDance, which featured fascinating choreographed dances by a variety of local talent.  Children were entertained by outdoor games and all ages enjoyed taking in the information at various displays.  The few trickles of rain that fell didn’t damper the fun for anyone.

CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS

Pippy Park was vibrant with energy on Canada Day.  Families enjoyed a day of festivities that included biking, face- painting and fake tattooing, potato sack races, and of course tasting some delicious snacks.

PIPPY PARK SUPPORTS AIDS CONFERENCE

8000 Memory Flags in the shape of the AIDS ribbon flew in remembrance of the more than 8000 people who die of AIDS each day.  These flags were displayed as the XVI International AIDS Conference took place in Toronto August 13 – 18.  Memory flags were on display in communities across Canada in August in hope and solidarity with the global effort to overcome the AIDS pandemic.

Text Box: WORLD TRAVELLERS IN
PIPPY PARK

This summer, Pippy Park Campground welcomed the most diverse campers to Newfoundland in its history.

As always, Newfoundlanders were found taking advantage of the warm, beautiful summer days on the campground, but this year travellers arrived from as far away as Japan and New Zealand.

European backpackers from Switzerland and the United Kingdom enjoyed a relaxing vacation, as did other Europeans from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Luxembourg. One travelling couple even marked the Pippy Park Campgrounds as one of the best they’ve visited in Canada! Many visitors expressed their appreciation of the warm greeting and helpfulness of the Pippy Park staff.

This variety of campers to Pippy Park showcases that Newfoundland is earning a reputation as a must-see vacation spot in the Country.

A TEAROOM WITH A MISSION

The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador has put the kettle on to boil to raise funds for autism programs.  The Pantry at Shamrock Farm, located in the Elaine Dobbin Centre for Autism opposite the Janeway Child Health Centre off Clinch Crescent, opened its doors on August 31.

Lunch menus in the Pantry provide tempting foods such as smoked salmon and arugula wraps with cream cheese and red onions, soups, fresh veggies, and desserts.  All profits from the restaurant will go toward the autism centre’s operating and program costs. The Centre for Autism is pleased to offer visitors to the park a place to enjoy tea, coffee or a light lunch.
