Friends of Pippy Park The Friends of Pippy Park Inc. is an incorporated, non-profit society Founded in 1984 for the purpose of promoting pippy park, enriching the experiences for visitors while in the park and raising money and sponsoring projects to further the objectives of the park and the pippy park commission.

The Friends are a helpful, non-confrontational support group for the park and the commission who want to ensure the survival and enhancement of the park by encouraging its maximum appreciation and sustainable use by the largest number of people.

The friends publish maps, brochures, buttons etc. promoting the park. We occasionally conduct guided tours for visitors , organize meetings , special events and children's programmes. We are represented on many committees and foundations connected with projects or programmes in the park. Our board has representation from the commission and many user groups in the park.

Children's Gardening ProgramThe Children's Gardening Programme is operated each Summer, by the Friends of Pippy Park with partial support from HRDC. It provides children between the ages of 7 and 13 years a valuable and enjoyable experience in growing flowers and vegetables in their own plot throughout the Summertime and of learning more about their environment through nature crafts and field trips.

The Friends also cooperate with the Rainbow Riders in organizing a "Christmas in Pippy Park" event on the Sunday before Christmas with a "Nativity Tableau" carol singing and a brief Ecumenical service. The event is held in the Rainbow Riders Barn on Mt. Scio Road.

The Friends also cooperate with the Pippy Park Promotions Committee and the Commission in writing and publishing a monthly newsletter "In Pippy Park" listing activities and events along with articles related to the Park on items of interest to residents and visitors to St. John's .

We submit briefs and recommendations to the Commission on such important topics as the recent Pippy Park Boundary Review and the Pippy Park Master Plan Review .

Friends of Pippy ParkWe also do periodical "Cleanups" of the Park and have adopted the new Outer ring Road through the park under the "Adopt-a-Highway" programme.
