Community Service

Several institutions and organizations—political, cultural, educational and health—make their home or headquarters in Pippy Park’s southern parkland. Many of their facilities provide interesting attractions and programming events for visitors to Pippy Park.

Easter Seals Society

When complete, the new Easter Seals House will be located on Mt. Scio Road and will be the province’s first truly accessible recreational facility for children with physical disabilities.

École des Grands-Vents

Pippy Park is home to St. John’s only francophone school. École des Grands-Vents is part of the province-wide Conseil Scolaire Francophone.

Elaine Dobbin Centre for Autism

Located at the site of historic Shamrock Farm in Pippy Park, this Centre provides programming to persons with autism spectrum disorder. It operates a café –-The Pantry—offering light lunches and refreshments.

The Fluvarium

See it here. Experience it. Explore the secret life of a river and the watershed and ecosystems of which it is part. Discover how water shapes our land, our city, our history, and our lives. See a speculator panoramic underwater view through nine large viewing windows. Participate in environmental education programs. Operated by the Quidi Vidi Rennie’s River Development Foundation, the Fluvarium is located in the heart of Pippy Park on the north side of Long Pond.

Grand Concourse Authority

The Grand Concourse is an integrated walkway system of 120 kilometres that links most of the major parks, rivers, ponds, and green spaces in the Cities of St. John’s, Mount Pearl and the Town of Paradise. Several of these key walks traverse Pippy Park.

MUN Botanical Garden

Located on Mt. Scio Road, the university Gardens display plants native to the province and cultivated plants suitable to the local climate and provides access to a number of habitats through a system of trails.

Rainbow Riders

St. John’s Therapeutic Riding Association offers a therapeutic horseback riding and an animal care program for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. The Rainbow Riders Centre is located on Mt. Scio Road.

YMCA

The YMCA of Northeast Avalon will soon have a new home. It intends to open the doors to a multimillion-dollar facility in Pippy Park (at the corner of Ridge Road and Higgins Line) in the next few years.
